DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Dr. Nick Ogden from the Public Health Agency of Canada will present the methodology and contents of the Infectious Diseases chapter of the recently released report- Health of Canadians in a Changing Climate: Advancing Our Knowledge for Action. \nThe chapter highlights the impacts of climate change on risks from infectious diseases of importance for public health in Canada\, including those that are current\, known disease risks (e.g.\, Lyme disease\, West Nile virus) and new risks that may emerge. It identifies the evidence to date of changing patterns that could be\, or are\, attributable to recent climate change. SUMMARY:Our Future with Fire: Barriers and Opportunities for the Revitalization of Fire Stewardship
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Dr. Hoffman will describe some of the factors that have contributed to the recent impactful wildfire seasons experienced in British Columbia in the last five years. She will discuss some of the barriers to applying controlled fire to the broader landbase and the importance of supporting Indigenous-led fire stewardship. \nDr. Kira Hoffman is a fire ecologist and former wildland firefighter. Hoffman’s research focuses on how humans have used fire for millennia to manage and enhance their natural surroundings. In concert with Indigenous and local ecological knowledge\, she uses western science to better understand how present-day forests have been shaped by stewardship techniques such as burning and how ongoing fire suppression has eroded the resiliency of landscapes and human communities. \nRegister on Zoom!
